Music Day Camp 2008

June 16 - 20, 9:30am - 4pm in Carnegie

June 23 - 27, 9:30am - 4pm in Shadyside

PMA is offering two day camps this summer for young musicians between 6 and 12 years of age who can already play an instrument. Out day camps will meet daily from 9:30am to 4:00pm. Each day every camper will have a Masterclass Lesson, a Group Class, a Music Basics Class (music theory, history, and listening), and one Elective. Our theme for the camps is "Telling Stories Through Music"and we will explore works of Classical and Folk Music that tell stories as a prelude to the children creating some musical stories.

A typical day at campl will include most of the music classes in the morning and electives in the afternoon. Everyone should bring a lunch, including a drink, each day. At the end of the day we will have an informal recital where students will be encouraged to perform polished pieces. Families are invited to the final concert on Friday at 3:00pm. Tuition for our day camps is $225 per camper per week for those who register by June 1, 2008. Those who register after that will be charged a late fee of $15. Summer Camp Registration Form

String Intensive Camp

July 21 - 25, 9am - 12 noon in Carnegie

For Middle School and High School Students, spend five mornings doing supervised practice, chamber music rehearsals and coachings, and two private lessons over the course of the week.

Have fun with your peers, work intensively and see how far you can advance in just one week!

This camp is also open to pianists and flutists who would like to play chamber music with strings.

The fee for the camp is $150 for the week. Registration deadline is July 1st, 2008.

Scale Certificate Classes:

6:00 to 7:30pm, Monday evenings, June 30, July 28, and August 18

Learn all your Major scales at the level appropriate for you now. Those who can play Minuet 2 – Book 2 will stay until 6:30pm, Books 2 and 3 until 7:00pm, and then those past Book 3 until 7:30pm. Come to one session or all three. Cost is $10 for the first 30 minutes, $15 for 60 minutes, and $20 for the entire 90 minutes session.

Pre-School Age Children

Pre-twinkle Camp

for beginning musicians
Saturday May 17
from 2:00pm to 4:30pm.

The camp is open to any child age 4 to 8, as well as 3-year-olds how have had some school or day-care experience. A parent must accompany each child and needs to say for the three-hour time span. A snack will be provided. We teach violin, viola, cello, guitar, and piano using the Suzuki method. You don't have to choose an instrument before camp begins. Wehn you come to camp, you and your child will share 30 minutes of a teacher's time with others who are learning the same instrument. Proper posture and the beginning steps toward playing will be taught. Concepts introduced at the beginning of the day will be reinforced at the end. The camp will include an opportunity to enroll for music lessons in PMA's current semester.
