Once upon a time, not so long ago, a group of music teachers had a dream.
Why not open a music school where students of all ages could joyfully learn
from highly trained teachers who consistently respect their efforts and abilities?
Branching out...
Our dream has become reality, and the school has grown. The Pittsburgh Music Academy has its central location in Carnegie and also in Shadyside.
Success for each student...
PMA is founded on the philosophy of the Japanese educator and philosopher
Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, who believed and proved that every child can learn and that, with quality instruction, everyone can play a musical instrument well. Musical ability can be acquired in the same natural way that every child learns to speak. The Suzuki approach to learning music offers a firm basis of support for children: parental involvement, daily listening to reference recordings, positive teaching methods, and frequent group lessons. These combine to ensure success for each student.
Quality of life...
Benefits of fine musical training carry over into academic work and also to careers and hobbies later in life. Learning to play a musical instrument gives a person skill, discipline, confidence, and an appreciation
for beauty.
